A Notary's duty is to screen the signers of important documents for their true identity, their willingness to sign without duress or intimidation, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction. Some notarizations also require the Notary to put the signer under oath, declaring under penalty of perjury that the information contained in a document is true and correct.

 

Property deeds, wills and powers of attorney are examples of documents that commonly require a Notary. Impartiality is the foundation of the Notary's public trust.


As official representatives of the state, Notaries Public certify the proper execution of many of the life-changing documents of private citizens — whether those diverse transactions convey real estate, grant powers of attorney, establish a prenuptial agreement or perform a multitude of other activities that enable our civil society to function.

  • An affidavit

    An affidavit is a written statement of fact voluntarily made by an affiant or deponent under an oath or affirmation

  • A package loan

  • The directive

    The directive is a formalized version of your advance care plan. It outlines your preferences for your future care along with your beliefs, values and goals. Having an advance care directive means you can also formally appoint a substitute decision-maker for when you can no longer make decisions yourself

  • Adoption

    Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting of another, usually a child, from that person's biological or legal parent or parents. Legal adoptions permanently transfer all rights and responsibilities, along with filiation, from the biological parent or parents

  • A power of attorney

    A power of attorney is a written authorization to represent or act on another's behalf in private affairs, business, or some other legal matter. The person authorizing the other to act is the principal, grantor, or donor

    A quitclaim deed is a legal instrument that is used to transfer interest in real property.
